Horne Museum + Casa Vasari + Santa Croce (3.5 hours)

We start with a visit to the HORNE MUSEUM. At the end of the 1800s, Hubert Horne dedicated decades to his greatest wish of recreating a Renaissance 1400s palatial home. He didn’t disappoint. He collected original works (not copies) to resurrect a moment of history that shaped the Western world. He collected paintings, furniture, everyday utensils and sculpture to furnished a 1400s building that he had bought to give Florence a fascinating house museum.

Staying in the neighbourhood, we then go around the corner for an exclusive visit to the fabulous drawing room of Giorgio Vasari at CASA VASARI who was the artistic director of Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici in the mid 1500s. He held his very busy and prolific workshop on the ground floor & his house was on the upper floors, the building was gifted to him by Cosimo. Vasari planned the delightful fresco decorative scene on the walls which encapsulates the artists’ aims and ambitions of the Renaissance.

Finally, a stone’s way away, we finish the tour with a visit to the monumental Franciscan basilica of SANTA CROCE CHURCH (Holy Cross) where tombs of famous Tuscan such as Galileo & Michelangelo are located (we discover exactly the trails and tribulations that lead to them being buried here) as well as so many other masterpieces.

This is the unexpected tour that you were looking for.
