Michelangelo Might

A tour concentrating on the great artist Michelangelo

DURATION: 4 hours

This walking tour of Florence concentrates on the man who painted religious members in hell, defied popes, fought for republican freedom, wrote poetry and prose as well as living and breathing his art. The tour is dedicated to the man who gave birth to the myth of the artist as genius.

The tour will visit the museums of  Accademia gallery + Medici chapels + Santa Croce church as well as include various outdoor places in the historical centre connected to Michelangelo and his work.

Accademia gallery is where his original David statue is located & some of his unfinished work also.

Medici chapels is where some of the Medici family members are buried and both the architecture of the structure and the sculpture was commissioned to Michelangelo from the family’s first pope, Leone X

Santa Croce church is where his tomb is located. This area was also where he grew up. He didn’t plan this spectacular tomb though, it was made in the years after his death to hold his body that was stolen from Rome! All will be disclosed on the tour.

If any of the above three sites are closed we can substitute with:

Bargello National Sculpture museum where his Bacchus statue, Brutus bust & the Pitti tondo are all located.

The Casa Buonarroti museum where first two works are located (Madonna oft he Stairs & The Battle of the Centaurs) housed in the building on the property that he had bought and where his great-nephew created the fascinating gallery dedicatee to him by the leading court Artists of the early 1600s.

IMPORTANT: Accademia Gallery & Medici chapels Ticket Reservations

Payment for the ticket is required at the time of reservation. We add the admission cost to the payment link that we send for the tour cost after the itinerary has been confirmed.

Please note:

-Tickets will be reserved & purchased only after payment has been received.

-In the busy season queues can accrue in the reservation area of the Accademia gallery due to the large crowds and the over ticket bookings, as well as in the non-reserved area (albeit always significantly less). For this reason however, to avoid all waiting time to enter the Accademia gallery, we strongly recommend entering this gallery before 9am (the gallery opens at 8:15am) or after 4:00pm if not possible in the morning (the gallery closes at 6:30pm).

Full price ticket at the Accademia Gallery costs €20 (ticket €16 + gallery reservation fee €4) & full price ticket at the Medici chapels costs €12 (ticket €9 + gallery reservation fee €3) & we make the timed-entry ticket reservation ahead of time to avoid the long queues in the non-reserved area.

Groups of 4 or more people will require headsets, necessary for most of the museums and recommended for city walks due to surrounding noise.

Freya’s Florence will book these in advance and they will be distributed at the beginning of the tour and used for the entire duration of the tour. For parties up to 12 people the total cost for a half day hire is 30€ or for a full day tour the cost is 50€.

For parties greater than 12pax the cost of the individual headset hire for the half-day rental is 30€ + 2,50€ per person.

He lived in the most fascinating period of Florentine history.
